Excalibur Guide

From zero to Excalibur — the complete endgame weapon route

Every material, every floor, every step. No guesswork.

Recommended Route

Excalibur is the most sought-after craftable sword in Broken Blade, introduced with the Excalibur update. It is a 4-Star Sword with massive AoE attacks that make it one of the best weapons for farming large enemy groups and pushing endgame content. But getting it requires a serious grind: billions of Money, tens of millions of Gems, thousands of Sword Pieces, 15,000 Fire Seeds, and 100 Holy Grails locked behind Sky Spire's toughest floors. This guide covers the complete route from preparation to final craft, including the most efficient farm spots, drop rates, infusion recommendations, and how Excalibur compares to Dragon Slayer so you know whether the grind is worth it for your build.

Quick Answer — How to Get Excalibur

Prepare your stepping-stone weapon: craft and max a Dragon Slayer at Volcano Island before committing to the Excalibur grind. Dragon Slayer is the practical workhorse for farming Jotunheim, Soul Forge upgrades, and early Sky Spire clears.
Unlock Jotunheim and raise your Soul Forge power by farming Soul Stones from Jotunheim mobs. Spend them at the Soul Forge on Pillar 2F — higher Soul Forge levels turn Dragon Slayer from a prep weapon into a boss-farming tool.
Farm the Jotunheim boss for Sky Keys and more Soul Stones. Sky Keys are the entry currency for Sky Spire, and you will need a large stockpile before attempting the Holy Grail farm.
Run Sky Spire and push past Floor 41. Holy Grails start dropping from Floor 41 onward. The drop rate is 29.6% per clear on Floors 41-60 and jumps to 38.61% from Floor 61+. You need 100 Holy Grails total.
Once you have all materials, head to the top of the tower in Jotunheim and interact with the crafting station to forge Excalibur. Infuse the blade with 2 Holy + 2 Flames for a balanced build, or go 4 Flames for maximum DPS.

Complete Material Requirements

Excalibur requires seven different materials. Some accumulate naturally through normal play (Sword Pieces, Money, Gems, Fire Seeds), while others require dedicated farming (Holy Grails). Here is the full list:

Material: Money

Amount Required: 3,000,000,000

Primary Source: Natural gameplay

Material: Gems

Amount Required: 30,000,000

Primary Source: Natural gameplay

Material: Sword Piece I

Amount Required: 5,000

Primary Source: Chests during normal play

Material: Sword Piece II

Amount Required: 2,500

Primary Source: Chests during normal play

Material: Sword Piece III

Amount Required: 1,000

Primary Source: Chests during normal play

Material: Fire Seeds

Amount Required: 15,000

Primary Source: Exploring islands

Material: Holy Grails

Amount Required: 100

Primary Source: Sky Spire Floor 41+

Money, Gems, Sword Pieces, and Fire Seeds will build up over time as you progress through the game. The only material that requires a dedicated farm is Holy Grails — everything else should be ready by the time you reach Jotunheim.

Step 1 — Prepare Dragon Slayer (Prerequisite)

Dragon Slayer is the de facto prerequisite for the Excalibur route. Current guides consistently use it as the stepping-stone weapon because it is strong enough to farm Jotunheim content and early Sky Spire floors without the multi-day grind that Excalibur requires.
Craft Dragon Slayer at Volcano Island using a Diamond + Mythril ore setup. This is the cheapest practical base and avoids gambling rare ores like Flame or Holy before your Excalibur route is stable.
Max out Dragon Slayer's level before moving on. A fully upgraded Dragon Slayer clears content faster, which directly translates to more materials and XP per hour during your Excalibur prep phase.
Do not skip this step. Attempting Sky Spire or Jotunheim boss farming without a strong Dragon Slayer will waste time and Sky Keys. See the full weapons guide for detailed crafting recipes.

Step 2 — Unlock Jotunheim and Raise Soul Forge

Jotunheim is the hub island for the Excalibur route. It contains the Soul Forge, the Jotunheim boss arena, Sky Spire portal, and the tower-top Excalibur crafting station. Reach the central pillar to unlock the area.
Farm Soul Stones from Jotunheim mobs and spend them at the Soul Forge on Pillar 2F. Soul Forge levels increase your weapon's power significantly — aim for Soul Forge level 5+ before attempting boss farming.
Soul Forge upgrades turn Dragon Slayer from a prep weapon into a legitimate boss-farming tool. This power check is what most players underestimate when rushing into the Excalibur grind.
Buster Pieces (from Epic/Legendary chests and the pillar piece shop) are also used for Soul Forge upgrades. Collect them as you go.

Step 3 — Farm the Jotunheim Boss for Sky Keys

Sky Keys are the entry currency for Sky Spire. Each run costs 30 Sky Keys at the entrance, and you will need many runs to collect 100 Holy Grails. Stockpile a large number of keys before committing to long farming sessions.
The most efficient way to farm Sky Keys is killing the Jotunheim boss. Use your upgraded Dragon Slayer to clear the boss consistently. If boss clears are slow, return to Soul Forge upgrades first.
NPC farming with an AoE weapon is an alternative method — regular enemies drop Sky Keys at a small rate per kill. Dragon Slayer's wide swings make this effective, but the boss route is more time-efficient.
One common mistake: entering Sky Spire without enough keys to reach Floor 41. Each run that ends before Floor 41 produces zero Holy Grails, making those keys a complete loss for Excalibur progress.

Step 4 — Farm Holy Grails in Sky Spire

Sky Spire is a 100-floor challenge mode and the only reliable source of Holy Grails. The critical rule: Holy Grails only start dropping from Floor 41 onward. Any run ending before Floor 41 produces zero Holy Grails, regardless of how many floors you cleared.
Holy Grail drop rates improve as you climb higher. At Floors 41-60, the rate is approximately 29.6% per floor clear. From Floor 61 onward, it jumps to approximately 38.61%. Some sources report per-kill rates of 3.45-5.05%, but the per-floor-clear rate is what matters for planning runs.

Floor Range: Floor 1-40

Holy Grail Drop Rate: 0%

Recommended Target: Practice only — no Holy Grails

Floor Range: Floor 41-60

Holy Grail Drop Rate: ~29.6%

Recommended Target: Minimum farm target

Floor Range: Floor 61-100

Holy Grail Drop Rate: ~38.61%

Recommended Target: Best farm target

The most efficient strategy: push as high as you can survive, then repeat the highest floor you can clear quickly. Floor 61+ is the ideal target once your build is stable. Do not spread keys across many low floors — focus on your best clear floor.
If you cannot consistently clear Floor 41, return to Dragon Slayer upgrades, Soul Forge levels, and boss farming before spending more Sky Keys. Wasting keys on sub-41 runs delays your progress significantly.

Step 5 — Alternative: Holy Chests

Holy Chests offer a secondary source of Holy Grails, though much slower than dedicated Sky Spire farming. These chests spawn in specific zones in Jotunheim and can contain Holy Grails alongside other loot.
The trick is to cycle the Jotunheim starter quest: open it and check the featured reward. If it is not a Holy Chest, decline and repeat. Once the featured reward switches to a Holy Chest, complete the short quest (about 1 minute) for one Holy Grail.
This method is best used as a supplement between Sky Spire runs or when you run out of Sky Keys. It is not fast enough to replace Sky Spire farming as your primary source, but every Holy Grail counts toward the 100 needed.

Step 6 — Craft Excalibur at Jotunheim Tower

Once you have all seven materials (including 100 Holy Grails), travel to Jotunheim and climb the central tower. The crafting station is at the very top.
Interact with the crafting station and select Excalibur from the recipe list. The craft consumes all materials and gives you the sword immediately — there is no additional cost or wait time.
If the craft will not start, double-check that you have the full 100 Holy Grails in your inventory. Missing even one Holy Grail blocks the craft, and this is the most common reason the forge does not respond.

Infusion Recommendations

After crafting Excalibur, infusion unlocks its full potential. The community has settled on two main infusion paths depending on your playstyle and content focus:
2 Holy + 2 Flames — Balanced setup for general content. Holy infusion provides consistent damage across all enemy types, while Flames adds damage-over-time that helps against high-health targets. This is the recommended default for most players.
4 Flames — Maximum DPS build focused on raw damage output. This setup shines against bosses and in speed runs where every second counts. Best for experienced players who can manage the trade-off in survivability.
If you already have gear that boosts fire damage, go with Flames. If you prefer a balanced loadout that works in every situation, the 2 Holy + 2 Flames mix is the safer choice.

Excalibur vs Dragon Slayer — Which Should You Get?

This is the most common question from late-game players, and the answer depends on where you are in your progression:
Dragon Slayer is the practical daily driver. It is easier to obtain, requires a fraction of the grind, and performs at a high level for all content including Sky Spire farming. If you already have Dragon Slayer and are happy with your clear times, you do not need to rush Excalibur.
Excalibur pulls ahead for raw damage output and AoE coverage. In speed runs, high-level boss fights, and endgame content where every second counts, Excalibur outperforms Dragon Slayer. The AoE attacks also make it significantly better for farming large enemy groups.
Think of it this way: Dragon Slayer gets you to the endgame, and Excalibur dominates once you are there. If you have the patience for the multi-day Holy Grail grind, Excalibur is the stronger choice. If you want the best time-to-power ratio, Dragon Slayer is the smarter pick.

Common Mistakes

Starting the grind too early. Attempting Sky Spire before you have a strong Dragon Slayer, decent Soul Forge levels, and enough levels (~14,700) will waste keys and morale. Prepare first, then farm.
Entering Sky Spire without enough Sky Keys. Each run costs 30 keys. If you only have 30 keys and die on Floor 20, you have wasted the entire run with zero Holy Grail progress. Stockpile before you start.
Chasing Excalibur without Dragon Slayer. Every efficient route to Excalibur assumes you have Dragon Slayer as your stepping-stone weapon. Trying to skip this step makes the grind significantly harder.
Hoarding rare ores before the route is stable. Use Diamond and Mythril for your Dragon Slayer base. Save Flame and Holy ores for the final Excalibur craft — gambling them on a prep weapon you will replace is a waste.
Spreading Sky Keys across many low floors instead of focusing on your best clear floor. Pick the highest floor you can clear consistently and repeat it. Efficiency beats variety for the Holy Grail farm.

FAQ

How do I get Excalibur in Broken Blade?
